As author he has published two spy novels in Spanish: El traidor de Praga (The traitor from Prague) 2012 and Triángulo de espías (Spy Triangle), 2016. El traidor de Praga was among the ten most sold novels that year according to The Miami Herald (Spanish edition) whose critics described it as “a milestone in the genre of espionage in Spanish language literature”. In 2015, it was selected as one of the twenty-five best books sold in Mexico, according to the cultural weekly review of the Mexican newspaper La Razón.

2016, H.L. Guerra presented with great success his new novel Triángulo de espías (Spy Triangle), at The Miami Book Fair. The Miami Herald (Review) wrote: “Spy Triangle is a great espionage novel. It is written meticulously, as an artisan, and in its plot, despite tackling complex issues like the illegal sale of weapons to terrorist countries. Librotea, the Spanish newspaper El País book blog recommends Triángulo de espías (Spy triangle), as one of the top 10 new spy novels about North Korea and ISIS in good company surrounded by Daniel Silva The English Spy and John Le Carré The Most Wanted Man.
